Renaissance Market opened its doors in May of 1992, and is owned by husband and wife team, Mary Landry Hopkins and Jim Hopkins. Known throughout South Louisiana and beyond for their fine French antiques, the owners travel to France to personally purchase unique items each year.
Their personal touch is what sets the shop apart—fresh, homemade dishes from family recipes, hand selected fine French antiques, polished yet easy to wear clothing and jewelry, and elegant home décor. All of these fabulous finds reflect Mary’s discriminating and sophisticated style. Her personal attention and decorating ideas have earned Renaissance Market many loyal customers, who often request a home consultation for decorating assistance and placing newly purchased antiques.
The Brasserie “Bistro”
In May of 2008, Mary and Jim opened the Brasserie within Renaissance Market and is slowly becoming one of the most sought-after establishments in the region. The menu changes each day with varied items, trying to preserve the freshness and availability of the produce. Popular items include chicken, turkey or tuna salad served on a bed of lettuce with freshly sliced avocado atop, assorted paninis made with choice cold cuts and cheeses, unsurpassed Lebanese dishes made with recipes handed down from Mary’s mother, and select salads such as fall fig salads and summer watermelon and red onion with French flair homemade dressings.
Currently the Brasserie is only open for lunch but plans are to open once a month in the evening to spotlight local talent on the unique stage and to serve wine, cheeses and other assorted appetizer dishes.

Antiques, Religious Art, Unique Gifts
Renaissance Market was founded as a purveyor of true French antiques, religious articles and art, and gift selections that reflect a warm, old-world style. Our most coveted items include French chandeliers, sconces, pottery, mirrors/Trumeau and smalls.
However, in keeping with the store’s name – “Renaissance” being a French word for rebirth – Renaissance Market is constantly reinventing itself, staying abreast of trends in fashion, home décor and cuisine. Mary and Jim are always on the hunt for products that are authentic, charming, stylish, unique and oftentimes locally made, like the Nouvelle candle line.
Apparel, Jewelry and Accessories
As Renaissance Market flourished, Mary continued to add new lines that fit the tastes of her clientele perfectly, including jewelry, scarves and other accessories. In late 2012, the time was right to fill another product niche that was lacking in the area— sophisticated clothing that was both comfortable and flattering.
Lafayette women were immediately drawn to the Sympli clothing line. To continue to keep pace with demand, an entire wing dedicated to housing Sympli was added. Renaissance Market has also expanded to carry handbags, scarves and jewelry designed by names such as Andrea Barnett, La Via Parisienne and Susan Shaw, and continues to add other top clothing designers to it’s repertoire. The Market’s selection of clothes and accessories is unrivaled in Lafayette, especially with the recent addition of vintage Chanel jewelry from Paris. To expand your unique style, visit us.
